Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

You can make an appointment for a counseling session by calling Deanna Kasten at (972) 364-9011. Please leave a message and I will return your call. If you feel that your call is an emergency, it is advised that you call 911 or proceed to the nearest hospital emergency room. I may also be reached via email at  jdkasten@sbcglobal.net

Is payment due at time of service?

Yes. Payment services is expected at the time services are rendered. If you plan to use your insurance, we will assist you in determining your benefits and coverage for mental health services. My office will also submit claims for reimbursement on your behalf.

Can I use my health insurance?

Yes. We file insurance claims on mental health benefits if the client has applicable insurance coverage. The client is responsible for any co-payments, deductibles and non-allowed charges. It is the client's responsibility to know what their insurance policy covers and make sure the deductible is met. Payment is due at the end of each session when services are rendered. The issue of fee and reimbursement will be discussed and determined by the client and counselor during the first session.

Is my information confidential?

All information a client shares in therapy, including case notes and records, is confidential. No information will be disclosed without the written permission of the client or a legally authorized person (i.e. parent or guardian). However, this policy does not apply in the following situations:

  1. If the client uses their insurance or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits, information about their treatment will be shared with them.

  2. As part of the therapist’s professional development, the therapist regularly seeks clinical consultation and may discuss information about the client’s case with another professional therapist who maintains the same policy of confidentiality indicated above.

  3. If the therapist becomes aware that the client may be a danger to themselves or someone else, of any suspected abuse or neglect of a child/elder/dependent adult, of a situation involving stalking, or of a threat to national security, the therapist is required by law to report this information to a designated agency.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full fee. Payment will be the client’s responsibility since insurance companies do not pay for failed appointments. In cases of emergency or special circumstances where 24 hours notice is not possible, the late cancellation fee may be waived.
